Eagles Drop Close Contest to Hillsdale

Men's GamesFall to 1-2 on the Year

There are nights when two teams are so evenly matched that the final outcome could come down to one shot, one rebound, or one break. That was the case as the Rhema Eagles and the Hillsdale Saints battled Saturday night at the Ninowski Recreation Center. In the end, Hillsdale outlasted Rhema by a score of 78-74.

Looking at the stat sheet, the teams nearly mirrored each other. Hillsdale was 29-of-61 from the floor, while Rhema was 28-for-59, both 48 percent. The Eagles shot the ball better from behind the arc (38 percent to 30 percent), but the Saints shot better from the charity stripe (70 percent to 63 percent). Hillsdale outscored Rhema from the free-throw line (14-12), but Rhema outscored Hillsdale in second-chance points (11-9). Each team scored 18 points from three-point range. Rhema committed one more turnover than Hillsdale, and Hillsdale outscored Rhema in points off of turnovers 17-15. Neither team ever held a lead larger than nine points. The lead changed hands 14 times and the game was tied 14 times.

Sophomore forward Parris Hoskins led Rhema in the loss with a season-high 21 points. Kasey Byrd had 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc and grabbed eight boards, while Brody Christian added 10 points and five assists. Josh White contributed six points and eight rebounds.
