Rhema Eagles 2018-2019 Season Review

“A Tale of Two Teams”

The Eagles 2018-2019 season is “a tale of two teams”.    With only 3 returners in Victor Tate, Shamar Woodson and leading scorer Kendrick Williams and 5 new players, had to learn to gel quick.   The team struggled the first half of the season with only 3 wins before Christmas break.  Fortunately the Eagles would get 4 players  after Christmas break for the Spring Semester, (6’5 Freshman Blake Hagin, 6’5 Freshman Annikan Okutiyang, 6’1 Freshman Delvin Tucker, and Returner 6’0 Junior Jermain Brown).  These players came at the right time as the Rhema Eagles leading scorer Kendrick Williams went down with a foot injury that sidelined him for the rest of the season.

With a new team, the Eagles only had 2 months to learn to play together before the ACCA national tournament.  Unfortunately at ACCA Tournament did not go as well as they hoped.

In the first round game of the ACCA tournament the Eagles played Carolina Christian College out of North Carolina.  The Eagles held their own, with Kendrick out Del Guerrero took up most of the scoring load, by scoring 50 points for the game, but the Eagles lost 99-96.  In the second game the Eagles lost To AFLBS 78-72 and the third Game the Eagles lost to Kansas Christian 103-89.

The Eagles had 2 players who had ACCA All-American Honors.

  • Sophomore, Forward, Del Guerrero received ACCA 2nd Team All- American while averaging 17.9 ppg    while shooting 47.3% from the field and 37.9% from the 3 point line.
  • Senior, Guard Kendrick Williams received- ACCA 1st Team ALL – American while averaging 28.1ppg, while shooting 55.7% from the field and 46.5% from the 3 point line.
