Rhema Eagles Head Coach
We are champions in Christ on the inside long before we see it on the outside. Defeat can be all around us; we just can’t let it get inside us.
Perry Shockley is in his 20th year as head coach at Rhema. He has helped lead a successful basketball program that has put Rhema on the map for collegiate sports. As head coach, he led the Eagles to two National Bible College Athletic Association (NBCAA) national titles (2001 and 2003), two United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national titles (2006 and 2007), and two Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA) national titles (2005 and 2017). In his two years as an assistant coach, he was part of the Eagles’ 1999 and 2000 NBCAA championship teams. Shockley’s Rhema career began in 1998 when he was named head coach of the first Lady Eagles basketball team. Under Shockley’s leadership, the women won three consecutive NBCAA national championships (1999, 2000, and 2001) and were NBCAA national runners-up in 2002.
Before joining the Rhema staff, Shockley served for three years as head boys’ basketball coach at Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas. While at Pulaski Academy, Shockley led his teams to two conference championships. In 1995, he was nominated for Conference Coach of the Year. Shockley also served three years as assistant men’s basketball coach for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR)—two years under head coach Mike Newell and one year under head coach Jim Platt. During Shockley’s time on staff at UALR, the teams won the Trans America Athletic Association (TAAC) Tournament twice. That qualified them for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament, where in 1990 they played Louisville and in 1991, University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV).
In addition to coaching basketball, Shockley has coached football, track, golf, and cross-country. He has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) since 1988. He served as a Regional FCA Basketball Camp Director for two years and as a huddle leader for seven years. He also has worked at Christian outreach camps and with the Special Olympics.
